Type 3 and mixed conditionals express hypothetical situations in the past or across time.
🔹 TYPE 3 — Impossible past condition :
• Used for hypothetical situations that did NOT happen in the past.
• Structure: If + past perfect, would have + past participle
• Examples:
- If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.
(But I didn't study → I didn't pass)
- If she had come earlier, she would have met him.
- If we had saved money, we would have bought a house.
🔹 MIXED CONDITIONALS :
Combine type 2 and type 3 — past condition with present result, or present condition with past result.
• Past condition → present result :
If + past perfect → would + base verb
- If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now.
(I didn't study medicine → I am not a doctor now)
• Present condition → past result :
If + past simple → would have + past participle
- If I were braver, I would have spoken to her.
(I am not brave → I didn't speak to her)
🔹 Summary of all types :

If I had seen him, I would have told him.
